I'd better not retire just yet
My hyperactive colleague Andy Piper showed me how to value my blog today. The value is more than $2 per page impression ever served. Whilst manifestly absurd, it'll be fun to check back there every so often.

Hyperactive? Am I? I just wish I could have valued my "often-top-5-in-IBM" internal blog. I suspect the advertising values for internal blogs would be lower, of course.
There's no particular reason for my internal blog to be internal. In it, I mostly discuss internal-interest topics: tools that are not deployed outside of the organisation, internally-available podcasts, etc.. It is true that about 30% of the content is of wider interest.
I shall consider your advice some more, but whilst most of my content is of internal-interest only, starting something external may not be quite so exciting. On the other hand, I do have nothing to hide...
I think you make a good point - there is certainly value in trading ideas and expertise internally. I think you do yourself a disservice, however, by pretending that your content wouldn't be of interest outside...
People are nosey... they like to get a feel for what's going on inside these big, secretive corporations :-)

Ahhh! But that's the point, Monsieur Piper.
Is there any reason why your internal blog needs to be internal?
Too many people on blogs.webahead.ibm.com are generating fascinating content that should be shared with the outside world.
Start the revolution... bring them all over to this side of the firewall!
Since we've gone all formal, Herr Brown...
